Misericordia University students continue to serve our farm regularly and are always such a huge help to us. We don’t know what we would do without them! They appreciate the mission here and like to take time to enjoy the land, the sheep, and the chickens. Our chapel is also a place of quiet reflection for them - a nice break from the hurriedness of college life.
Carmina had a chance encounter with the actor Martin Sheen, who was visiting friends at Kings College in Wilkes-Barre. She was thrilled to meet the man who played Peter Maurin in Entertaining Angels. He was very gracious and generous with his time. Perhaps he can visit the farm next time he is in town!
Once again, Carmina participated in the spinning demonstration at our local Heritage Day at Frances Slocum Park. People are fascinated by it. The artisan skills are certainly not dead - Peter Maurin would be happy!
Carmina also gave a mission at St. Ambrose Church in Schuylkill Haven, where she was reunited with her good friend Mary Ellen. What a wonderful community of believers - their love for Jesus was palpable.
St. Faustina and Our Lady of Mount Carmel parishes again held their confirmation service day at the farm. Fr. Richard joined us and spent time talking to the young people about his life on the farm in Africa. We had Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel, and Father blessed us all with the monstrance. It was a beautiful day all around.
Two worlds collided when we travelled with the Dalys, our coffinmaker friends from Marian Caskets, to Willow Haven Farm to dine with the DeMasters, our farmer friends who donate our vegetable plants every year. With a common bond in Christ, the conversation flowed so beautifully. God keeps bringing amazing people into our lives - what a great adventure it’s been.
Carmina took a ride up to Transfiguration Monastery to visit with Sr. Donald Corcoran. We made our Oblate vows at Transfiguration and remain close to Sr. Donald, who lived with Dorothy Day for a bit back in the 70’s. Carmina and Sr. Donald are planning a retreat on the Spirituality of Dorothy Day, to be held next June. Stay tuned for details - Carmina plans to bring her spinning wheel!
Larry’s evangelization ministry is flourishing! In addition to his own blog, he continues to freelance for Catholic World Report and the National Catholic Register. He recently wrote from Rome on the Synod, then traveled to Minnesota to speak at the New Ressourcement Conference sponsored by Word on Fire. The conference will launch a new journal, to which Larry will contribute. Larry also spoke locally at the University of Scranton at the invitation of Dr. Nathan Lefler, Professor of Theology. He has a few speaking engagments scheduled for the Spring, including one at the Catholic University of America.
After a small hiatus, Larry is back doing interviews for his podcast/YouTube channel. Finished with traveling for a while, he is hunkering down on the farm for the winter to do some writing (and tending the sheep, of course!)
Please send us your prayer requests. We will pray for you and count on your prayers for us.
